Guten Tag Sweet Friends!

I have big news! I’m now a legal resident of Germany!! I was given a residency permit, and I’m allowed to reside here until December when I have to apply for an extension. Woohoo!!! If you’ve been keeping up you know that my visa expires on July 28, three months from when I entered the country; so I had to quickly establish residency. With the help of some of my German friends, I was able to pull together the necessary documents and register for the next German As A Foreign Language class at school. On Friday, my friend Maggie accompanied me to the local city office and we were successful in obtaining my permit!!! YAY!!!! What a relief! I’m not going to be deported or taken away during the night.

Saturday night, Doc and I hosted a dinner party here at the apartment. There was a huge boat parade and fireworks show on the Rhine in front of our place, and so we invited some of Doc’s colleagues over to enjoy the fireworks and have dinner. It was a huge success. I met some really great people I had not met before and the evening was wonderful. We enjoyed Marbella chicken, couscous, Tuscan bread/tomato salad, Weezie salad and for dessert fresh strawberries atop vanilla ice cream drizzled with very old Balsamico. Wunderbar! The theme of the fireworks show was The Wild 70’s, and so I dressed appropriately in my best 70’s outfit. I really haven’t gone wig shopping yet, so I didn’t have a proper wig, but the outfit was pretty darn good. We had 70’s music playing and everyone had a great time. Nothing like some disco from Donna Summer to liven up a summer evening! Bad girls indeed!

Today has been a very lazy day. We stayed up late cleaning and so we slept in this morning. The only time I went outside was to meet my friend Sulamith for coffee. We stayed in tonight eating popcorn and watching The Sting. What a great movie!! Of course, what’s not to like about a young Robert Redford and Paul Newman together!!
