Easter brunch with my Memphis family.

Today was a gorgeous Easter Sunday, and I spent they day with my son, my ex-husband, his other son (my “half son by marriage twice removed”) and my ex’s partner. To say we are a non-traditional family unit is an understatement! My ex and I obviously remain friends and we have a very loving, open relationship.  I’ve known him since junior high school, and  he and I share more and know more about each other than anyone else on the planet will ever know. His partner is equally loving and opens his home and his heart to me. We have raised our son in a loving, open and honest way that I’m sure some people might find offensive but seems to work for all of us. He, my son, seems to be a mature, self-confident adult who, hopefully, won’t require too much therapy! 🙂

I am so grateful for our quirky little family and the weird looks and comments we sometimes get, grateful for the bonds we share that transcend the miles and the years, and grateful to know I am loved and always have someone who will take care of me. My ex always said, “we’ll grow old together;” and I think he’s right. Always good to know someone wants to grow old with me even if I don’t plan on growing old!

Happy Easter.
