November 11-14 was spent in Venice, home of romantic gondola rides and a labyrinth of streets with no names. It’s a city for lovers, but not why you think. It’s because dragging an entire family through the narrow streets and staying lost is such a nightmare that it’s best suited for pairs or singles!! Well, it’s not that bad, but close. You just have to let the map and GPS go and head in the general direction otherwise you’ll end up frustrated and still be lost. It’s an enchanting city and during the winter months you can experience the water up close and personal. It’s called Acqua Alta and it’s high water in Venice when the high tides flood the main squares and streets of the city and you have to buy waterproof boots or walk on the city “cat walks” designed to hold the thousands of tourists passing through San Marco piazza! It sounds bad, but it’s really kinda fun to wade and splash in the water! Highlights of the trip were San Marco Cathedral and the Doge Palace!
