Guten Tag Sweet Friends!

IMG_5197Today is another sunny beautiful day in Cologne!! Showers are predicted later today but for now it’s warm and sunny. There is a two-day flea market going on outside our apartment along the river promenade. Vendors are selling everything from flowers to clothing and accessories to art work to antiques. It’s like every other flea market I’ve ever been to except everyone speaks German! After much deliberation and trial runs, we bought three pieces of artwork – one painting and two iron/gold foil cut-in pieces.

IMG_5200The painting is by a local artist Gudrun Scholtz. If you want to see some of her work, go to http://guscho-art.de/5035749a510d1c006/index.html. She’s quite talented and her work has lots of texture. You can’t tell by the picture, but the painting we bought is HEAVY and loaded with texture. It looks great on the wall I painted last night!! As Doc said, it was meant to be.

The other two pieces we chose are by artist Michael “Bill” Laux. He creates iron sculptures our of oil IMG_5201drums, car hoods, and other discarded objects. We purchased two pieces pictured here with the intent of lighting them from the inside. The shadows will be fantastic!! He had several full size oil drums that he had burnt out/designed that makes me want to have a back yard bonfire. The light firing through the holes is amazing. Check out his website at http://feuertonnen.de/feuertonnen.html. You’ll want one too!!

Tonight, we have some of Doc’s colleagues coming over for drinks and apps, and then we are going to dinner. I’m making baba ganoush and hummus to snack on. Hey, if I’m cooking it’s going to be something I can eat!

Have a beautiful Sunday my friends. Sending you love and light!
