Guten Tag Sweet Friends!

I’m back in Koln after a much-needed sunny vaca in Corsica! I was reminded again and again of Hawaii and it did my heart good to chill on the island.

Procession in St. FlorentAfter my visit to Plage du Lotu, I went to dinner in St. Florent. I sat outside facing the harbor and all the many sailboats. As I sat there eating my very plain salad, I again heard men singing; and sure enough, it was another procession of Catholic men singing and carrying the crucifix and other icons followed by a group of devoted followers. I still don’t know why and what they are celebrating but again I enjoyed their harmonies and the church bells ringing. For moi???? Merci!!!

The next morning, I had my coffee with Jean Claude and we “talked” best we could. I told him again how last day view (2)much Corsica reminds me of Hawaii and how much I enjoyed my visit. He invited me to come again and stay in St. Florent. Sadly, I told him and Solene au revoir until next time and drove off in my little Twingo towards Bastia airport.

Being in a foreign country and not speaking the language makes even the simplest things difficult. I had to fill the tank of the rental car with gas and this mindless, easy task became a source of stress – is this the right type of gas? do I pay before or after? am I doing this right? do I look stupid? Jeez, let it go! I finally told myself, I’ll never see these people again so what does it matter if I look stupid. Besides, you’d think I’d be used to it by now! 🙂Bastia Airport

I arrived in Koln around 4:30 PM and took a shower to hose off the smell of cars, trains, planes and busses. I met my friends Sue and Brent for dinner at Ecco the vegan restaurant down the street. Finally, a GOOD salad with tons of veggies. I was a little tired of Lara bars, crackers and bread. I shared my adventures with them over dinner and told them it was definitely worth the money. I’ll go again for sure!

So now I’m back and planning my next adventure! I think maybe a drive down the Mosel river to visit castles, vineyards and sleepy villages along the way. Au revoir Corsica and guten tag Rhineland!
