Yassoo Sweet Friends!

Yesterday was another glorious day in Delenia Greece! The sun was shining all day, the sky was blue and while the wind made it a little chilly, it was all in all a gorgeous day.

IMG_6320My day started around 6:30 AM with the roosters and chickens. It was my turn to feed the animals, so I got up early and headed to the chicken coop. Along the way, I picked up the bag of kitchen scraps from the main house to give them along with their breakfast of corn and pellets. There are two roosters and nine hens and they provide fresh eggs each day. They greeted me with lots of clucking and excitement as I tossed out the kitchen scraps and opened their pen. After throwing down their corn and pellets, I went inside to check for eggs. Success! There were three eggs! Not bad girls!!

I continued my feeding rounds making sure the cats and dogs had full water bowls and fresh food. I checked in on Tardu who was perched on her ladder, and I gave her fresh water and food in her cage. She comes and goes pretty much as she pleases so I left the barn door open for her and went to fetch her a banana. She loves banana and was most pleased when I gave her a big chunk.

I continued my puttering around the property, cutting back rosemary and trimming trees. Every time I cut back a big rosemary bush, I find a small bit of garden art left by the man who built the property. His name was Panayotis Kanellakis, and Delenia was his life-long dream. He was an attorney in Greece and spent time in Nepal as well. He helped to start the Greenpeace movement in Greece as well. He bought the Evia property  in 1998, and started building his dream home overlooking the Aegean Sea well outside the hustle and bustle of Athens. I can see why he was drawn to the property; the views are stunning! He built it from nothing, literally nothing and put his heart and soul into it. He added lots of quirky and unusual built-ins and architectural elements around the property. We find something new every day. He lived and worked here for ten years before he passed away in 2008. His daughter Chryssa has taken over the property and operates it as a rental on Airbnb. You can have a look at the “barn” where I’m staying here.

IMG_6327In the afternoon, we decided it was time to tackle the chicken coop and give it a good muck out! The three of us pulled on rubber gloves, grabbed the rakes and shovels and began the smelly, messy, horrible task of cleaning chicken poop from the coop and refreshing the hay. Yes, it was nasty, but I’ve done worse jobs and for some people, this is an every day thing. And, of course, it’s one big thing I can add to my professional house sitter resume! Experience with poultry? Why, yes, I am!

In the evening, me, Nat and Jodie had dinner together in the big house. We managed to get a good fire going and sat around with the cats enjoying the warmth. We talked about life goals, feeling connected, love and spirituality. We shared stories and dreams too. I even purchased a new domain – housesitterhawaii.com! I want to start house/pet sitting exclusively in Hawaii and get paid for it, so I’m building a website and putting out into the Universe. Wish me luck!

Last night, as I walked from the big house to the barn, I  looked up into the black sky. I turned off my flashlight and waited for my eyes to adjust. OMG! The stars were amazing!! I could see the edge of the Milky Way surrounded by millions of stars. I stood outside for a while watching and waiting for a shooting star, but then said to myself, I’m the shooting star, I am stardust, I am part of the Universe, I am the luckiest girl on the planet tonight.

Surround yourself with stars my friends. Wrap yourself in their magic and start building your dream!
